Job Title: Lead Spacecraft Test Engineer

Duties:

This position will lead Aerospace program office teams and ETG resources for planning, development, and successful execution of vehicle Integration and Test (I&T) for the GDO Program Office. The selected candidate will work with the customer, SETA contractors and the prime contractor on a daily basis to define and execute vehicle integration and test flows from initial spacecraft build-up through integration at the launch base and initialization on-orbit. Leadership responsibilities span a large scope of activity, from teams executing current I&T activities to teams defining I&T for future concepts. The selected candidate will:

Lead the planning and execution of system functional and environmental tests. Specific responsibilities include Space Vehicle Integrated Test Plans, Baseline Integrated Systems Test, Acoustic, Thermal Vacuum, EMI, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and system-level integration testing.

Lead teams responding to issues and use excellent judgment in applying engineering resources for effective problem solving. Ensure test discrepancies, anomalies and issues are resolved consistent with program mission assurance requirements and sound mission assurance practices.

Lead reviews and audits of test procedures, test data, test reports and test discrepancy disposition.

Ensure that effective implementation is made and best practices followed for the test equipment. Work with prime contractor to ensure test equipment, software and facilities are properly maintained, safe and ready to support test events.

Lead program office I&T teams supporting spacecraft sell-off activities and milestone reviews (ex. Test Readiness Review)

Work with other government and contractor organizations to support inter-segment and end-to-end system tests or demonstrations.

Work with the prime and other contractors to define launch base requirements, plans and procedures for spacecraft processing at the launch base.

Work with prime contractor and mission ground station team to define post-launch requirements, plans and procedures for initializing the satellite and verifying performance on-orbit.

Regularly monitor ongoing activities at the factory. A periodic on-site presence is required.

Report to customers and program on progress, issues, and risks. Build a close working relationship with customer technical leads, contractors, and matrix support engineers.

This position requires initiative and leadership. Regular travel will be necessary. This position is in Chantilly.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or mathematics is required; advanced degree is desirable. A minimum of 12 years experience in space systems development or operations is required. A demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams is required. Require previous experience with space system, sub-system and/or component qualification, acceptance or developmental testing. Prefer in-depth knowledge of space system test and mission assurance standards. Desire experience with spacecraft launch operations and satellite on-orbit testing. Desire demonstrated success working in program office environment with government and SETA contractors to manage efforts of industry prime and sub-contractors. Applicant must be able to work effectively across organizational boundaries and be able to employ ETG resources effectively to address customer needs. Applicant must be able to communicate with a broad range of customers, technologists, program managers, system engineers, and senior government leadership. Must be willing to support frequent travel (1-2 weeks per month). Current SSBI is required.nbsp;
