Position Overview

The Senior Vice President of Energy will play a pivotal role in crafting Vantage's power landscape by running the comprehensive energy strategy and infrastructure. Leading both utility planning and onsite power generation teams across North America, you will use technical expertise, strategic vision, and a collaborative leadership style to ensure the company's ability to deliver for our customers. The Senior Vice President of Energy will drive initiatives to improve power availability, optimize energy generation, and support the company's expansion goals while ensuring alignment with sustainability objectives in the North American region while partnering with global partners to ensure consistent customer experiences around the world.

Essential Job Functions

  • Energy Strategy: Develop and implement energy strategies that will give Vantage a competitive edge across the North America markets. Develop a suite of power solutions including self-generation, grid-interactive, private developer partnerships, renewable offtakes, etc. Strategies should contemplate partnership options, financial structures, regulatory & public policy review, and suitability for Vantage's customer base.

  • Market Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and develop data center locations across North America and secure the needed power for these developments. Engage with local utilities, regulatory bodies, and other essential team members to de-risk power delivery across all development locations.

  • Project Management: Guide all aspects of project execution and provide strategic direction to ensure successful outcomes. Lead the utility coordination team in the end-to-end process of securing initial capacity, obtaining quotes, designing, engineering, scheduling, and establishing connection agreements for utility projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.

  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical support and guidance to sales, construction, new site development, and operations teams, tapping into expertise to address complex infrastructure challenges and support business growth. Serve as a subject matter expert on energy-related matters and drive continuous improvement in our technical capabilities.

  • Partner Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with internal team members, external partners, and regulatory authorities to facilitate collaboration, address regulatory requirements, and drive project success. Champion a collaborative approach to partner engagement, ensuring alignment of interests and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Innovation and Sustainability: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in energy generation and sustainability, exploring opportunities to innovate and enhance Vantage's competitive advantage in the market. Drive initiatives to integrate renewable energy sources, optimize energy efficiency, and advance our sustainability goals.

  • Financial Management: Partner with Finance to prepare and update financial business case models for onsite power generation projects, including cost assessments of capital expenditure (CAPEX), operating expenditure (OPEX), and commercial framework for cost recovery. Ensure alignment of energy strategy with financial objectives and optimize return on investment.

Duties

  • Collaborate with the Regional President, Market Development and Commercial teams to develop a comprehensive energy strategy for the region, including financial business case models

  • Maintain senior relationships with utilities, private developers and other potential partners

  • Engage with regulatory and government bodies on policy issues and infrastructure investment

  • Consult and collaborate with key customers

  • Identify and mitigate delivery risks associated with energy solutions

  • Evaluate Environmental Health and Safety and sustainability impacts of energy solutions, integrating into recommendation criteria

  • Provide technical support to Sales, Construction, and Operations across diverse energy solutions

  • Drive decisions on scope, schedule, and budget for energy solutions implementation

  • Complete executive reporting on overall energy infrastructure and forecasts

  • Bridge knowledge between internal teams and external collaborators

  • Lead a team of energy planners, business development and project managers and ensure projects are performed well and in collaboration with other regional teams

  • Ensure a world-class customer service reputation for current & future Vantage customers

  • Stay updated on industry technologies and innovations for energy strategy advancement

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an engineering field required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of dynamic experience in energy management, power generation, or related fields, with at least 10 years in a leadership role.

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, energy use optimization, and large-scale power generation projects.

  • Showcased experience in project management, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance within the energy sector.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to lead teams, build relationships, and work well across functions and geographies.

  • Resilient, persistent, and culturally self-aware, with the ability to succeed in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required to fulfill job responsibilities.

  • This role will be based in Denver, CO; Sterling, VA; Atlanta, GA; or Santa Clara, CA

  • Salary Range: $240,000-$280,000 Base + Bonus

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
